How do you jail break an ipod touch and what does it do?

What would happen when i jail break a 1st gen ipod touch?

• i just bought a refurbished ipod touch 4 my bday. i love gba roms and i found out that i can play them on a ipod touch... with jailbreak. im new to the world of jailbreaking and i have everything ready for the jailbreak except the ipod and the knowledge of what happens. im so hesitant because the word jailbreak sounds so bad... more info about the ipod. my dad says that it is a 1st generation with the most up 2 date software. i assume that it is 2.2.? idk the last number of that. i want 2 know what happens so i can do it safely. my main worries are that i wont be able to play the apps made for ipod touch in the first place and that i wont be able 2 sync my music and apps when i buy them from my pod. HELP!!!

  well to check on your firmware go to settings>general>about and make sure you have version 2.2 (5g77) and nnote!! dont update to 2.2.1.. you wont be able to jailbreak it!! heres how http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i6rJS3j9AU and yes you can still sync music and buy apps from the app store but you can also get free apps and heres how http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jkZyngH4n8 make sure you need 2.2... nnothing else.. and never update
