Ipod touch water damage?

Ipod touch water damage? HELP!!?

  • I made the mistake of leaving my Ipod touch outside in the rain the other day, it POURED for a few hours so yes it was soaked. I knew not to turn it on while it was still wet so I put it in a plastic bag with rice for 24 hours and let it sit. Last night I plugged it into the computer & it seemed to be working fine for about a half hour. Then all of a sudden the touch screen started to not work. Everything seems to work except the touch screen so I am unable to turn it off & unlock it (I have a password set for it). I then read how to reset the ipod & tried to put it into recovery mode by holding downt the home button & sleep button but when I plugged it into itunes it said the ipod was unable to be recovered for some reason. I cant bring it into the apple store - my moms ex boyfriend gave to her for christmas & we dont have any kind of receipt or anything for it. She didn't like the touch because it was too big & all she wanted it for was working out so I traded her it for my nano about 2 weeks ago. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO ): HELP!

  • Answer:

i thought mine was water damaged before but it wasn't. i went to the apple store and they looked and said it wasn't water damaged. BUT! if you leave it in rice and you take it to the apple store in a few days they will look in it (somehow they can do that) and then they will determine if it is water damage. Now, before you say that you wont take it because you don't have a receipt please read this: when i went to get it fixed i had the box and the receipt and everything. but all they need is the serial number. if you can plug it into itunes and you say that its not letting you restore but letting you see it? then you can get the serial number off of that. write it down and take it to apple. they may fix it but they may not depending if its under warranty it should be though if he bought it last christmas

To dry it out completely you should try Silica Gel Packets. There was a good article on associatedcontent.com that explains how to dry an iPod, MP3 player, cell phones, or any electronics. You need to place your iPod in a zip lock bag with Silica Gel Packets. Silica Gel will remove all the moisture from the iPod and its components, something air drying will not do! Just Google "Silica Gel Packets" and you will find several companies selling these products. There is also a web site called: http://www.SilicaGelPackets.com that has them.

search online for ipod repairs. i cant think of a name but i know someone repairs them for $25

I don't think there's anything you can do. You can wait a couple of more days to see if it's working then, but if it doesn't, then it won't work anymore. Sorry :(
