Does Cydia slow down my iPod touch?

What is Cydia for iPod Touch ?

• I have an iPod touch 4g , not jailbroken . I've heard of Cydia but I dunno what it is . I read somewhere that it can hide some of the apps on it , which is what I want to do because I let my friends use my iPod sometimes and I don't want them going thru my stuff . How do I get Cydia and what changes will it make to my iPod , if any ?

  Hello there Amber, Cydia is a software application for iOS that enables a user to find and install software packages (including apps, interface customizations, and system extensions) on a jailbroken iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Cydia is the main independent third-party digital distribution platform for software on iOS. Many of the software packages available through Cydia are free, and it also includes several hundred packages for sale through the Cydia Store with a commission setup similar to the App Store. Most of these packages focus on providing customizations and modifications (often called "tweaks") that can only run on jailbroken devices (since the App Store is limited to distributing self-contained apps). Technically Cydia is a graphical front end to APT and the dpkg package management system, which means that the packages available in Cydia are provided by a decentralized system of repositories (also called sources) that list these packages. It won't make any changes to your device unless you perform them (download themes, tweaks etc) all this thru Cydia. To get Cydia you have to jailbreak your iPod Touch using either RedSn0w, Greenpois0n according to what firmware you are running on the device.
