IPOD Music Transfering Help Plz?

  • ok i have the old ipod nano and the new one. im trying to transfer my tracks from the old ipod to my itunes library. but when i insert the old ipod nano it says " this ipod is synced to another itunes library. do u want to erase this ipod and sync it with this itunes library? then----an ipod can be synced with only one itunes library at a time. erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this ipod with ur itunes library." the thing is i wanna try to get some songs of my old ipod onto my new one, but i dont wanna erase the tracks on my old one. is there a way i can transfer some old tracks off my old ipod to my new one?

  • Answer:

go to apple.com it has walk throughs and trouble shooting for that exact problem. I know it has something to do with enabling hard drive disk use on your ipod nano.

Just hit no when the dialog comes up that asks if you want to sync it with another library and delete all the files. You should still be able to access them.

Cassie (the first person that responded) is partially right (see below). the second guy is almost right (well, he is because you can use your ipod to transfer files too) but the music files on the iPod are not stored that way. There is a way to transfer the music from your ipod to a different computer (and not using it as a hard drive). But, as far as I know, *This only works for music you purchased on the iTunes store** so if you say no to erase this iPod, and if you do have music purchased from the iTunes store, it will ONLY prompt you to Transfer purchases (music you purchased from iTunes store). When you try to play the songs on the other computer, it will ask you for your password and whether you want to authorize this computer to play that music (you are allowed to authorize up to 5 computers).

Nope, it doesn't work like that. They made the ipod so you couldn't just transfer songs from one to another one, even if that other one is still your's. Always make sure you have your music files saved to your computer's harddrive then add them to itunes.
