How do you restart/reboot your iPod?

How to restore my iPod Touch?

  • I have an 8GB, 4th Generation iPod Touch. I just jail-broke it using Cydia and RedSn0w 0.9.9b6 (tethered). The jailbreak worked perfectly. When I went into Cydia to download a new package (a theme or something), after downloading it, I accidentally clicked the reboot option at the bottom of the screen and my iPod went to reboot. I'm assuming that because of the tethered reboot (and the fact that I did not reboot in DFU mode like I was supposed to), the iPod was then stuck in Restore mode. No big deal, I read that I would just have to restore in iTunes and re-install the jailbreak. Ha! First, I couldn't get the iPod out of the reboot mode (black screen with Apple Logo). Finally figured out how to do that (hold Home screen and Power button at the same time; screen will go to black; when Apple Logo reappears, release Power button and "Plug into iTunes" screen will come up), now it is stuck in "Plug into iTunes" mode. So, I plug into iTunes. It tells me that I need to restore this iPod to use with iTunes and I click "Restore". It then says at the top that it's preparing the iPod for restore. This lasts for about five to seven minutes and then an error message pops up that says the following: "The iPod 'iPod' could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604)." My iPod's "Name" is: Sarah's iPod, not just iPod, by the way. I don't know what to do to get it back to working order. I read somewhere that if you do the jailbreak wrong that it does NOT destroy your iPod, but you just have to restore. So, what the heck is going on?? I am using a Windows laptop, running Windows 7. I am using iTunes version 10.5.0.142 Can someone please help me? I've seen a few different threads on this exact issue but they were either too old and not using my current version of the iPod/iTunes or were giving instructions using a Mac. Please be VERY specific in details and please don't be fooled by the words that I used above (tethered; reboot) because I have NO IDEA what they mean! So please use layman's terms to describe a fix. Thank you.
