How do I upload music from external drive to iTunes to iPod?

• I'm seriously technologically challenged and need help. I have an external hard drive I use for my laptop which I plan to upload my music to but I'm facing the following problems/questions: 1. Can I upload the actual iTunes program onto the external hard drive? 2. If so, how do I move music from the external hard drive onto iTunes? 3. If the above 2 steps arent possible, how do I upload music from the external hard drive onto my iPod without storing the music on my laptop?? All help is appreciated~

  1. itunes is already on your laptop it will recognize your external hdd as long as your laptop recognizes it 2. first you need to add the music on your ext hdd to your itunes library, to do this, go to file>add folder to library, then select the music folder on the ext hdd. itunes then imports all your music to your library (it doesnt copy them to your laptop) 3.once all the music has been imported, simply sync your ipod to tranfer the music note - do not disconnect your ext hdd. to access the music from itunes, it must be connected
