Can you convert coaxial into rca?

How can I convert Coaxial Cable to RCA?

  • Hi there, My coaxial input got ripped out of the back of my tv by accident. So i was trying to figure out a way to convert my cable line directly to rca. Do i need some kind of converter box? i just got a piece from radio shack that converts the coaxial male part into a female rca input? am i on the right track?

  • Answer:

No, you're not on the right track, and neither is the other answer. The coaxial wall jack can only be connected to something that detects and selects individual channels. Here's one way: use an old VCR. Connect the wall jack to the VCR coaxial input jack. Connect the VCR composite (yellow-red-white) output to the composite input (same colored RCA jacks) on your TV. Select that input with the TV's remote. It might be labeled "AV" or "AV-1," etc. Change channels only on the VCR. Beyond that, your only other resource is a cable box from the cable company for an increased monthly fee. Or you might get your TV repaired or replaced. -------------- Followup: on the VCR, set up the tuner for CABLE or CATV operation, not ANTENNA, RF, or AIR. That will be a menu option on newer VCRs, or a switch on the back or side on older ones.

Get a cheap CECB HD converter box for $20. Plug the composite and audio outputs to your TV inputs. You can't go straight from RF signals over coax to composite RCA input.
