How do I connect an av receiver to my tv?

How do I connect my new receiver to blue ray, cable box and TV?

  • I have Sony STR-DH520 7.1 AV receiver, Sony Blu-ray, RCN HDMI Dual DVR cable box and Panasonic Viera TV. I have the HDMI from TV to receiver. RCA/Component from DVR to TV. Optical from DVR to receiver. Component and RCA from Blu Ray to receiver. With this setup I can get everything to work except the video to TV from Blu-Ray. If I connect the RCA/Component directly to receiver from the DVR I do not get any video. Any thoughts on how I can set this up so that I can get audio and video from everything?

  • Answer:

There are a couple of ways to get this set up. One way is to make all of your units feed to the TV, and use the AV receiver solely for audio. The DVR and the Blue Ray A/V both go to the TV, either HDMI or Component, and feed the digital audio output from the TV to the digital audio input of the receiver. Another way is to feed all of your units to the receiver, switch inputs using the receiver, and feed audio and video via HDMI to the TV. Make sure it's the receiver's HDMI Output to the TV's HDMI Input.
