Freeview Television/Indoor Aerial Problems - Help Please !!?
-
My sons have television with built in freeview which they were bought for Christmas. I am having terrible problems picking up both analogue and digital channels. I also have a snowy white picture. I have bought an amplified all in one indoor aerial up to 43dB but this is not helping although in saying that I can pick up BBC1 and Channel 4 but again with snowy picture screen. I have an outdoor aerial but the lead for this is downstairs and is coming out from the floorboards and cannot be moved as it is there for when we lose our sky connection (lol). My question is if I bring the freeview television downstairs and turn it in via the outdoor aerial (hopefully it will work) will the channels still be there when brought back upstairs to my sons bedroom? Our outdoor aerial is positioned on the extension roof and can be seen from my sons bedroom through the window. Any ideas on what I can do to get a better reception and picture quality if all channels remain once (fingers crossed) tuned in? It is driving me insane and getting a loft aerial is out of the question as other half simply will not have this !!! I am desperate to get the television receiving all channels for my sons. Any help will be very much appreciated.

Answer:
The only answer is to connect it to the aerial on the roof. You shouldn't need to keep a lead for when you lose Sky as if your system is working correctly except for the occasional rain out which usually only lasts a couple of minutes you should n't have a problem. If you can't use the tv's then they were a waste of money.

Indoor aerials are useless for Freeview, unless you live very close to the transmitter. If you want a decent picture, you will have to hook the TV to the roof aerial. However, you will loose all the channels again, as soon as you disconnect it.

As already stated; you need an outdoor connection, and you will loose the channels if you re- connect to a weak signal, as suggested. It is possible to have an outdoor type of aerial indoors; either in a loft, or even on top of a wardrobe! http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/best_aerial.htm http://www.stevelarkins.freeuk.com/tv_signal_booster.htm

the only possible answer is to have a new outdoor aerial for the bedroom tv or use a splitter box and extension cable from the outdoor aerial you have already. Analogue channels will finish in all areas by april 2012 so it will be freeview only then. Since you have a sky dish you could connect to a freesat receiver from it as an alternative.
