How can I hook up my computer to my tv?

How do I hook up my computer to my TV?

  • I have an Insignia 42" tv and a HP computer. I have been trying to hook these two devices up for a couple of weeks now and I am finally at the point of giving up. I have a VGA cord that converts to a RGB cord. When I hook up the computer to the TV I states "Mode is not supported" then after a few minutes it switches to "No signal". NOW the weird part is I have shut down the computer twice. When I am at the Welcome screen and shut down screen of Windows the images show up on the TV. (although distorted). Any help would be much appreciated!

Your almost on the right track here, You should get a new cord. I'd say that you should go to RadioShack. I go there daily and find useful items there. If you've tried that go to Fries, and I mean the store.

The resolution on your computer might be set too high... try a low res setting...get to it through start -- Control Panel Also you might have to go through a VCR type device... that's what I do. Not sure what kind of "cord" you have... but Radio Shack sells the converter your looking for.

If the start up and shut down splash screens display, then you need to adjust your video card output settings in order for the computer desktop to be displayed by your TV. Try adjusting the settings to 800x600 at 60 hz to start as this resolution should display without a problem. Once the desktop displays, you may adjust the settings to suit your needs. I hope this helps.

you can use an hdmi cable if your computer has it...also you may have a regular computer moniter hook up on the computer and possibly on the tv
