What do the HDMI cables do for the consoles?

Will shielded HDMI cable stop electrical interference?

  • In my flat we have a PS3 and Xbox 360 hooked up to a Sony HD TV (about 3-4 years old). The unit they all sit on is a few feet away from our fridge and whenever we're using either console and the fridge turns on (i.e. you hear the motor starting up) the signal to the TV drops out for a few seconds. Both consoles are connected using HDMI cables which we've had for a while but work perfectly fine otherwise. Up until around 2 months ago we were using a Samsung HD TV which was sitting on top of a dining table in more or less the same place. As our flatmate moved out and took the TV we can't switch them to find out if the problem is being caused by the TV itself, by the HDMIs or perhaps even as the dining table had the TV sitting slightly higher or diffused the interfering signal. Has anyone had a similar problem and how did you fix it, and would shielded HDMI cables stop this problem or could it be something to do with the TV? Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

It seems to me, there is an interference of signal which triggered the motor of the fridge to turn on.This might be coincidental. Only way I think that the units should be hooked up to the different outlets little bit far away from the fridge.

Plug your TV in a different outlet in another room Its not the shielding of the cable.
