How do you transfer Panasonic sdr-h40 camcorder to Sony vegas?

Sony vegas movie studio? putting video from my canon on it?!?!?

  • Ok so I've had Sony Vegas Movie Stuido Platinum for years....and right now its on my Windows Vista computer... The video from my panasonic digital camcorder has always transferred fine, but recently I got a Canon 60D and none of the video will go onto it, says its not in the right format. For one, I don't know what format it needs to be in, and even if I did I don't know how to change it? helpppp?!?! I have a video business and it will be doomed if this doesn't work?!?!

First, if you truly have a video business, it's your responsibility to know these things. I had my own business for 10-years after leaving commercial, broadcast television and it was my job to keep up on everything happening around me. Soapbox over. Okay, in checking the specs on the 60D, you can do this also, it apparently records in mpg4 and in mov. mov is an apple format and it's a major issue with windows because every clip must be converted to wmv prior to edit - I know because I use a t1i in mov format. If your previous camera loaded to Sony vegas with no problem, just check its video format. If it's wmv, for instance, then you know you have to convert to wmv. - at least that's what I suspect. Look at your editor carefully for a converter. I use an editor called Creative by Roxio. It contains an editor that converts from mov to wmv but retains the original quality. Cheap / free converters usually compromise the quality and you'll end up with bad looking stuff. Also you may find it easier to record in mpg4 because I believe it converts quicker than mov. With my converter a 2-min clip in standard HD can take about 10 - 15 minutes. So if you have lots of clips it becomes an all day process to convert - again I know because I had a recent project that cost me about 2/3 of a day just in conversion. Good Luck
