What's a good fish eye lens?

Why isn't this fish eye lens working on my camera?

  • I bought a lens that says it's supposed to be a fish eye lens that will fit on a Canon Rebel XS. The box says, "Bower, Digital High Definition Super Fish Eye Lens, .42x Super Fisheye Wide Angle Lens, 46mm Thread Black, .42x Professional High Speed Auto Focus Deluxe Fisheye Lens With Macro" and the model number is VLB4246B. I attached the lens to my Tamron AF 28-80mm Aspherical Lens on my Canon Rebel Xs. It fit perfectly. Seemed like it screwed on just right. When I took a picture with it, though, it just seemed normal. The picture looked exactly like any other picture I've ever taken with my Canon. The box didn't include any instructions, so I'm not sure if I'm just using it the wrong way or if I adapted it the wrong way or if it just really isn't what I was expecting it to be, but I am confused and disappointed. Does anybody have any suggestions? I tried looking up instructions for it online, and didn't find anything.

    For the best effects, I would recommend attaching that fisheye attachment to a lens with a wide end of 18mm or less. Since your Tamron 28-80mm starts at 28mm, the fisheye effect will not be as "pronounced". The best you can do is zoom out as far as possible on your lens. Have fun and good luck!

With the 28-80mm, use the fish eye at the 28mm end or close to it. Zoom out, not zoom in. Using the 80mm end will just cancel out the wide angle effect and revert the zoom lens to normal. Since the 28mm is very close to normal (~33mm), you wouldn't see pronounced effects. 28mm x .45 = 12.6mm That's how your lens would behave with the semi-fisheye at 28mm. It really would be best to use it with shorter focal length lenses like the 18mm end of a kit lens. Your semi-fisheye won't fit that one though.

fish eye doesn't really do much. just makes straight lines bent more. its almost like how a fish would see the picture but it doesnt really do much than normal
