Will using a high-speed SD card increase the performance of my camera's memory buffer?

The manual for your camera will explain whether using a high speed card will make any difference. There is little point in using a card that is faster than recommended by Nikon for the D60. Writing information to the memory card is dependent on the slowest component on the path, from the sensor, image processor, buffer, and memory card. Perhaps the easiest way to increase the availability of the buffer would be to shoot in either RAW or JPEG, not both at the same time, or drop the resolution a notch (may not be possible in RAW mode on a Nikon - I don't know).

Hi! You should see an increase in performance. The buffer fills quickly because it cannot write to the card fast enough (it cannot write in real-time). If the camera can unload data quicker onto the card, then the buffer will not fill up to max capacity as fast and you will be able to burst more shots at once. As a side note, if you shoot just in RAW (not RAW+JPG), there will be less data in the buffer so your performance will increase even more. I hope this helps! John http://www.flickr.com/johnhanam/
