Is 200% the same as twofold and 300% the same as threefold?

Nikkor 18-200 VR or 70-300 VR?

  • Hello I would like to buy a new lens for my camera (Nikon D40x). The two options I have in mind are Nokkor 18-200 VR and Nikkor 70-300 VR. I dont have much expertise in cameras, and have been using mine for just over an year now. Cost is not an issue at this point. Is there a big difference between the zoom at 200mm and 300mm ? The cost of 18-200 is 1.5 times higher than 70-300. Can you please tell me which one is a better lens? Thank you so much for reading.. Kiran

  • Answer:

If you were to only have one lens, the 18-200 VR would be the most versatile. Since you probably have the fine 18-55 mm lens, buying the 70-300 mm VR will give you more "reach" when shooting sports, action and wildlife subjects

You are comparing apples and oranges. To be honest the average Joe doesn't have much use for a big zoom lens like a 70-300mm. The image quality from both lenses will be of high quality but if I were to pick one it would be the 18-200mm, I could do much more with it. You may not mind changing lenses but you will when something falls into your camera body while you are doing it.
