Digital SLR camera memory card?

  • Im about to get a digital SLR camera (Nikon d5000 if that helps). I'm not sure how much it can hold or what kind of memory card to look for exactly. Plus I saw some 64gb and 32gb memory cards and like the 64 is 100$ and 32 for 20$ I looked on ebay.com and was woundering if any were frauds.     1. Do not buy camera equipment off of ebay unless you meet in person and have a look at the equipment yourself. 2. anything above 8gb in one card is overkill, way overkill. With my 4gb card I can shoot over 1k pictures on the largest jpeg setting. First, counterfeits are rampant on places like Ebay. I'd avoid it if you're looking for memory. You've people selling cards that have a lower storage capacity than advertised, and cards that are slower than advertised. I know a few people who went there to buy some Extreme IIIs only to get normal SD cards at an inflated price. I'd just avoid Ebay completely and only go to places like Newegg or Adorama to get memory cards. It's more expensive, but it's also legitimate with no chance of getting a fake card. It's also true that using a microSD card is slower than using a standard SDHC card. It all comes down to usage. If you're going to be taking single shots with your camera, any SD/SDHC/microSD card will do. If you're into action/sports photography where you hold down the shutter release button and take multiple shots at once, you're going to want to save up for a fast SDHC card. In the end, you get what you pay for. You can't ask for a quality, high speed card at bargain prices.
