Camera and computer troubles, need help?

  • My girlfriend got a camera for christmas from her brother, and it is kinda crappy so it doesnt have a memory card, and all the pictures hace to be uploaded via cable to the usb drive on the computer. It came with a disc with a program to do all the photo stuff but when i open the program and plug the camera in the camera turns on and all and the camera looks like it says conected but the computer doesnt acknowlege that it is conected. I go into my computer and it says nothing is hooked into usb drive, i have tried restarting the computer, uninstalling and reinstalling the program but now im at a standstill. Any sugestions?

    NO digital camera comes with a memory card in the cameras package. You have to spend $8 and buy a nice 2 gb memory card and use it. Expecting the computer to automatically find the camera assumes that your computer is set up to auto-open devices that are attached to the computer and turned on. This is usually not the case. Just use your computer skills and the computers file manager to open the card and copy the image files to your computer.

Unless it's some $20 toy digital camera that actually works, there should be a slot in that camera to accept a memory card. The card has to be bought separately. When buying a memory card, bring the camera to be sure you get the right size. Also buy a USB memory card reader for connecting the memory card directly to the computer. When transferring files from the camera to the computer, use the USB card reader and My Computer in windows or Finder in the Mac. Look for a Removable Storage Device or something to the tune of that. That should be the memory card. You can then move the pictures from the card to a folder of your choice in the computer's hard drive. Double click on the filename to see the picture. If you like to manipulate the picture, you can use Irfanview or Gimp. Both a freely available from the internet.
