Best dslr cameras for $500?

right now i have about 500 to 600 saved up for a dslr.. i want something that can take awesome pictures what cameras do you recommend that are out there right now?

well theres nikon and canon which are the mains dlsrs people look at look at the rebel series from canon and i want to say the nikon d80 goto your local bestbuy or frys, which ever you have and try them out btw cameras dont take good pictures... you do=)
