Why wont my camera connect to my computer or laptop?

Help please with camera? wont connect!?

  • Ok, I have a sony cybershot DSC-T90, the camera has been great and rarely any problems, ok im trying to connect the camera to my computer (Toshiba A665) but the dang think wont connect! when I would I usually connect the camera to my laptops, it will just say USB connecting... and then an file would pop up on my computer for me to transfer the pics, etc. But now it is saying the typical on the camera, btu then also (Switch on [MENU] ) Then when I hit menu, theres four options, auto, PictBridge, PTP/MTP, and Mass Storage, when I hit either of those selections, it will go back to "connecting to..." and then about 20secs later another screen will pop back up with the switch on menu thing, WHAT DO I DO? I have tried all usb ports, same thing happens, and what I dont understand is I have got the camera to load pics on this laptop before with NO problems, and I havent switched anything that would affect this problem on either devices, HELP!

  • Answer:

The USB card reader is not a cover up solution to your problem. It is the recommended method of transferring files between camera and computer as it offers total control to file handling. The use of the card reader eliminates almost all connection and file manipulation problems presented by connecting the camera directly to the computer and using the camera's software to automatically do the transferring. The USB card reader is the only way the pros, photo and computer-wise, do it. It is actually the method of connecting the camera directly to the computer and using the camera's software that is the cover-up method of file transferring as the user doesn't know most of the time what is really happening to the files. To fix your problem would mean to uninstall the camera's software and all USB devices connected to the computer. Yes. It's that complicated. Only then can troubleshooting begin. .

Other answers

Buy a $10 memory card reader for your computer and use that instead of connecting your camera directly to your computer. You will no longer have this problem, and your photos will transfer to your computer faster.
