How do I import photos from my camera to my computer?

How do I transfer videos from my digital camera to my computer? plz help?

I hooked up the USB cable to the camera and the computer and turned the camera on. I noticed that when I plug it into the camera, the camera goes onto standby mode. It said that I should put the camera on Playback mode, but I dont know what that is. When the pop-up came up, I chose "transfer all photos." But it only transfered the 1 picture I had, not the videos. I even went to MovieMaker and tried to import it from there, but it said it could not find a compatible digital camera. Which I believe is because I have to put it into Standby mode. Can anyone please tell me how to put my camera on Standby?
