How do I get my webcam to work?

A friend gave me a webcam, I'm pretty sure it's a Creative Webcam Instant. She didn't give me any installation CD's or instructions, just the webcam. What I need to know is, how do I install it and what do I need to install it? I've tried a few things on the internet already, and it still hasn't worked. I plug it in properly, the light on the webcam turns green like I'm sure it's supposed to. I want to use it for Skype, if that information is helpful at all.

It won't work without the software so get that as well.
