What kind of zoom should a good camera have?

Camera help! canon v.s. nikon?

i've asked a question like this before, i know. but i'm saving up for a quality camera, and i dont know what kind to get. my sister has a nice nikon, and it takes pretty good pictures. but i want a camera that can manually zoom and focus, otherwise i'm not interested. i don't care what the price is for now; as long as its under $1,000. someone who is experienced and knows quite a bit about cameras, what brand would you choose? is there a camera you recommend? thanks!

I happen to be a Canon guy and recommend them. Actually take your pick you'll be pleased with either one.

You need to find out which one is the best for YOU, not what we like. Go to a good camera store like Ritz or Wolf, and try some out in your price range. Handle them and see which one is easiest for you to use. You will know the one for you when you have it in your hands.

I just got a nikon D60 this summer, and i looooove it ! It's really easy to use, and takes amazing pictures.

I like Canon but I am biased because it is all I have ever used. Nikon DSLR's are also good. Go to dpreview.com or CNET for more detailed reviews and comparisons. If you are spending that much then you should do some good research
