What is the most common type of zoom lens?

  • I'm doing a science project for optics and I need to learn about zoom lenses. I'm not into photography in the least so I currently know nothing on the subject. The information I have found has told me there are several types of zoom lenses including Optical Zoom, Extended Optical Zoom, Digital Zoom and Afocal Zoom, and the most common type of zoom appears to be the Afocal zoom. Can someone please tell me if I'm right or correct me if I'm wrong?
