My computer won't recognize my flip camera?

My computer won't recognize my camera or memory card. Help?

  • I plugged my camera into my laptop, and nothing happened. So I plugged the memory card into my home computer, and still nothing. I have very important pictures on my camera, and need to get them saved to my laptop or computer. Please help me? Also I lost the installation cd that came with the camera, but someone said I wouldn't need it. The camera is a few years old, and I haven't had to have it in the past.

    You don't need the software. Your problem is the card is not detected, it's not even about the files yet. You need to make sure the USB cable is working fine. Last time I had this problem was because of a bad use cable. Change another one if you can. Then you need to make sure the camera is 'on' when you plug to your computer. Your computer is powered by external power, not on battery. If it still doesn't happen, make sure your computer is not infected by virus. Some virus damage the function of external device.

I have never even taken the CDs that came with my cameras out of the boxes! If what Mo suggested doesn't help, you could try buying a card reader. If your camera uses a SD card, the reader will cost less than $10 at Walmart. If it takes a different card, the reader would be less than $15. Just make sure you get a multi-card reader if it isn't a SD. You plug the reader into a USB port on your laptop and then insert the card into the reader. That will hopefully take care of it. But if not, I'd take the card to a good camera store like Ritz or Wolf or any other good store and see if they can put the pictures on a CD for you. Once you have the pictures securely on a CD or on your laptop, format the card in your camera. That will erase all pictures on the card and get it ready to take some more. That should always be done after you upload your pics.
