How do I activate a camera for my mac?

Need help w- a new digital camera (fuji) getting pics on my MAC?

• I recently purchased my 1st digital camera. It is a Fujifilm finepix Z33 WP (waterproof) after taking my first pics I tried to get the pics onto my computer. It is a MAC with operating system 10.5. I plug it in, and nothing happens. I installed all the finepix software (even though I don't have to- my sis have the same camera and did not install any software b/c it's for editing) I tried it on her PC and once the USB was connected, a window popped up asking if i'd like to view a slideshow of the pics. On my mac, nothing happens. I've opened my finder and it doesn't even recognize that a USB is connected. I checked all the info it came with and there is nothing about how to transfer pics to the computer, but it does say something in the finepix software agreement about having an operating system for mac 10.3-10.4. I've had my mad for almost 2 years and it's always been 10.5. This camera just came out w-in the last year so why the heck is it not compatible w- my mac??? Does anyone know what I can do here? Please do not suggest uploading the pics to someones pc and saving them there, not an option. I want the pics to go onto my MAC. I'd rather not return the camera and already have quite a few pictures on it. Any computer/tech savvy people out there that can offer advice?

  Your Mac should just recognize your camera. Try opening up iPhoto. You might not be getting enough power to the camera if you are plugging the USB in to the keyboard port. Try using another USB port. I've used many camera's on my Mac, and iPhoto has always recognized them. Hope this helps.
