How to fix broken (microwaved) Flip video camera?

My camera takes picture in black now..anyway I can fix it?

  • Let me tell you the story: While I was making a video about 2 weeks ago, I was also having some nice soup. I was eating it on the floor and I propped the camera on top of a stool and a stack of books cause that was the only place the camera could see my face well enough, and also where I can be seated comfortably. Well, the soup was at the foot of the stool and I was stupid enough knock it into the soup. :\ Now it takes pictures in black. Its just a blank, useless screen. My camera is a pink, expensive, Sony Cybershot camera 7.5 megapixels. Is there anyway I can fix it? And if not, can I still use the warranty? Cause there's a 1 year warranty on it and I had it since Christmas, but my mom said they won't give me another camera because it was my fault that its broken.

I also agree that your warranty is shot. The camera probably did have some fried electrical circuits or connectors. Your best bet is to take it to a repair facility (check the Sony website) so they can tell you if its fixable or not. The problem with most digital point and shoot cameras is that they are mostly never fixable when things go wrong and often when they are fixable it usually costs almost as much to buy a new one. Do any pictures come out? I know it shows black on the camera when you try but if you try taking pictures and look on the card later do you see anything? I don't know how handy you are with fixing things but if it was me i would open it up and use a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean any thing that looks eggfooyoungy ..lol

I don't think so. Since it fell in the soup, its not covered by the warranty.

Your factory warranty won't cover accidents or abuse. Being submerged in liquid probably caused serious damage to the electronics inside. Take the camera to an authorized Sony Service Center (check the Sony website or your owner's manual) and get an estimate. Then you can make a decision to either to repair it or replace it. If you take it back to the store where you bought it, they'll do two things. 1. They're send it to an authorized Sony Service Center (or to their generic repair shop). 2. They'll try to convince you to buy a new camera from them. Sorry to hear about your accident. I've done worse, but we all learn from our mistakes.
