What is a good point and shoot camera to buy for under $200?

What is the best point and shoot camera for an artsy photographer?

  • I took photography for 2 years in high school. I have a manual camera (an Olympus...but its about 20 years old) and a point and shoot Canon Digital Elph that is about 3 years old. I want to buy a new point and shoot camera because my friends can take really clear, focused pictures and my Elph will NOT do that. The Elph is also horrible with high speed photography. My friend with the best pictures says she has a Canon Powershot 8.1, which is around $200. Anybody have this camera and can recommend it (or tell me what other one to get instead)? Are there any cameras better than that in the same price range? OR Is there a significantly better camera for up to $250ish?

If you've taken photo classes you know something about cameras and probably should be considering an SLR. The Nikon D40 runs about $400 right now and the Canon Rebel XS, which I own, is about $499 at one site that I know of. If you want quality aim higher.

for an artsy person i would defiantly go with canon. i would recommend the sd990. The sd 990 offer 14 megapixles which is nice for blowing up or cropping. It has aperture and shutter priority modes so you can control everything you want to do. This is about the highest end you will find in your price range before you look at dslrs or high end point and shoots like the canon s90 or g11

I would suggest Canon PowerShot SD780IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD
