How can I get the pictures back?

Well I took some pictures with my camera and they were turned sideways.. I rotated them on the memory card. When i look at them on my camera it says file unsupported. Is there any way i can see them on the camera again. I tried formatting it and they still wont work.. I downloaded photo recevery programs that still wont work.
