Does the Nikon D90 take video?

I need help finding a camera similar to Nikon D90 or Canon EOS 7D?

  • I'm having plans to go to Japan later this winter to visit my girlfriend. I want a good camera to bring along with me but I can't spend too much money. I'm looking for something that can manage both HD video and photography. And preferably it should be able to take decent shots in low light and in the night time without significant noise or distortion. The two main models I am basing my considerations are the Nikon D90 and the Canon EOS 7D. But they are a little too pricey for me. What are some of your recommendations? Here is a video demonstrating the kind of quality I am searching for in a digital camera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTj-SFroh0I&hd=1

  • Answer:

If they are too pricey, look at the Nikon D5000 or Canon T2i (550D)

I suggest looking at the Pentax K-x which was chosen as the 2010 "Best DSLR Entry Level' by the Technical Image Press Association. It has: 1) HD video. 2) Live View. 3) Double/multiple exposure capability. 4) An in camera focus motor. 5) In camera Image Stabilization. Here is a real-world, hands-on review: http://www.shutterbug.net/equipmentreviews/amateur_digital_slrs/0510pentax/index.html The K-x w/18-55mm lens is currently $529.00 at B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com To really improve your low-light photography you'll need to invest in a Pentax 50mm f1.4 lens. For night photography you'll definitely need a tripod. This site will help with exposures: http://www.calculator.org/exposure.aspx I used the Scene 'Distant view of city skyline or floodlit buildings' and ISO 200 for these: http://www.flickr.com/photos/drifter45h/4048051455/ 100mm lens @ f11, exposure of 30 seconds. http://www.flickr.com/photos/drifter45h/4048796836/ 200mm lens @ f11, exposure of 30 seconds.
