2004 Cadillac CTS fuel problems?

  • My 2004 Cadillac CTS acts like it's starving for gas only when i fill up gas. It runs perfectly fine but when i get gas (i fill it up til it shuts off but never try to put more gas in) and when i try to start it after filling up it wont start and the engine just turns like its starving for fuel... then i have to let it sit and start it again while pushing the throttle to force some gas in. It is throwing two codes: P0446 Evap Vent Control problem & P0496 Evap System flow during non-purge hopefully someone out there has had this vehicle with this problem and can help 2004 CTS 3.2 V6

    The best way to check the problem is by getting a fuel pressure gauge and checking the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. I believe that you wont have the pressure thats required because theres a problem with your fuel pump. Theres a piece of rubber hose that goes between and the fuel pump and the steel fuel line, and Ive seen this before where that hose will get a hole and leak. With a hole in the hose, no fuel pressure. The repair means taking the fuel pump out of tank and replacing the bad hose.

You will need to replace that Evap purge solenoid!!!!!! It is sticking causing the fuel system issues & it can cause it to hard start a lot of times. That is the thing on top of the engine on the right hand side with 2 hoses attached to it & a wire connector. That needs to be replaced(Look under the gray engine cover on top!!!!!! Not sure about the P0446 vent deal, may have some debris clogging it up but it wont cause it to hard start or extending cranking times, just turn on the Check Engine Light
