How to open up a pet store?

How and can i sue a pet store for this?

  • I recently got a bearded dragon (i had her for 2 weeks now) from a pet store near my house. i had no idea that she had no calcium in her bones what so ever and she was barely eating (about 2 crickets per day and also she would barely poop). When i first came to the store, she was in a small terrarium with no heat, no UV and not even 1 thing to climb on and she wasn't even picking herself up with her legs ( i thought she was just tired at the time, it was getting pretty late). They also gave me wrong instruction on how to take care of her. They told me to only feed her ONE mealworm every THREE days and said i didnt need UV, heating, etc. I took her to the vet and they gave her an X-ray and you can see that she is almost completely see-through (meaning her bones are very weak and has no calcium) on the paper thing they print x-rays on. They also gave her a shot with D3 and calcium and mentioned that she could of died in a few days if she was still at the pet store. The vet also said that we need to come next week to possibly get another shot which is going to cost me even more money...The pet store lied and told me that she was healthy and i ended up spending over $100 on the vet and the pet store still had the courage to sell her more expensive than other stores (the other stores were pretty far away). so would i win a lawsuit against this store? and how can i sue them? I currently have her in the right conditions with: heating lamp, 10.0 UV light, things to climb on, powder to put on her crickets, and liquid calcium stuff i put in her water and give to her with a dropper and take her out to the sun everyday. She currently cannot pick herself off the ground, doesnt eat a lot, barely poops, walks a bit.

In order to sue you have to show damages - meaning you have to have suffered a loss. Not sure it would be worth it - the most you'd be able to recover might be the vet bills, but it would cost you that much in legal fees to do so. Did you buy the dragon with a credit card? American Express and others allow you to dispute charges; you may be able to get your money back (to pay for the vet) by proving through Amex that they defrauded you in leading you to believe that the animal was healthy in the first place. Read your paperwork carefully - if there is a certification as to the health of the animal, you may have a case either through your credit card or through your own efforts. You can definitely bring the vet bills to the store with the xrays and the diagnosis and ask for reimbursement. If they tell you they won't comply, tell them you'll go to the newspapers. Write a letter to the editor and show it to them - make sure you are being honest. Nonetheless, this is a store dealing with living creatures - in this case their fraud is definitely harmful to the pets. I'd report them to the BBB and the SPCA. They need to take care of their animals better, they need to learn how to take care of them so they can give their customers better advice, or they need to sell TVs or something instead. This is abuse and cruelty.

I would first bring all of your evidence to the store owner/manger. Give them the opportunity to make amends financially. Let them know you will continue to watch and evaluate them and will turn them into the proper authorities if they continue with bad animal management practices. Then do it-if necessary.
