What is a good age to start parkour?

Is there a way for me to get Disability Benefits at the age of 25? WHY DID I START PAYING SS AT 15?

  • I am 25 years old and have a condition called Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (Diagnosed 10 months ago). I started working at the age of 15 and stopped working at the age of 22 (not because of medical reason, but because I got married and traveled with my husband for his job). I am now unable to return to work due to my condition and was looking into Social Security/ Disability benefits. This is a statement from the Social Security website: "Age 24 to 31--You may qualify if you have credit for working half the time between age 21 and the time you become disabled. For example, if you become disabled at age 27, you would need credit for 3 years of work (12 credits) out of the past 6 years (between ages 21 and 27)." So it is saying I would need 2 years worth of credits?? and my biggest question is why did I pay social security starting at age 15 if they do not apply towards my credits until age 21???? Really confused with all of this! Thanks everyone!

and my biggest question is why did I pay social security starting at age 15 if they do not apply towards my credits until age 21???? SSDI is an insurance program. If you had worked and paid in every year from age 21 through age 41, and are now age 55, you would not be eligible for benefits even though you paid in for 20 years. It's just the way the insurance was structured. Even though you may have paid for car insurance from age 16-24, but not the last 1 year, if you have an accident you wouldn't be covered. This is sort of the same thing, only that depending on your age, you must have paid in for a certain number of quarters within the last certain number of years. Anything you paid in prior to those last certain number of years, is forfeited. Hey, if you are single, no survivors, pay into it for 50 years, then die 1 year before you can collect regular SS retirement , it is forfeited.

Yes,that is what it is saying. You would need to have had two years of work between the ages of 21 and 25 when you became disabled. SS benefits require that you have 10 years of work credit. I assume the age of 21 is used because that is when most people start working full time, after college. Either way,you do not have enough work credits to get disability through SS. You can apply for SSI which is disability for people who do not have enough work credits. This is based on household income as it is a form of welfare. Depending on your husbands income, you may not be eligible. You apply for SSI the same way you do for disability through SS. I believe you can apply online at the SS website. The same criteria is used to determine whether you are disabled whether you get SSI or disability through SS. Expect to be denied a few times before getting approved. It could take two or more years until you are approved.
