How much should I bring for parking on South Street in Philly?

  • I went to a park and parked on the street. i've done so many times. one night, the person i was with and i saw police lights. the police shined flashlights to see if anyone was in the park, saw us, and didn't say a word to us. they were there for about thirty minutes until we came walking towards our cars and saw the tickets and they sped off. They didn't warn us to not park there and there is NO sign stating NO PARKING. that's not the worse part. The officer spelled my name completely wrong and has my birthday listed as 01/01/0101. and they also have my home zip code incorrect. I'm a college student and i can't afford to miss class for court nonsense but i really cannot afford the 75 dollar ticket. if I bring in the paper showing the wrong infomation showing that the officer was clearly just attempting to meet a quota, will they dismiss the charge? thanks

Fight it. Often court can be in the evening so you may not need to miss class. The only way to fight it is in court.

Clerical errors do not invalidate a ticket. Your best bet would be to take pictures of all the signs and show that nothing said you can't park there. Be aware that if the signs indicate the park closes at a certain time (or at dark) then you will have a hard time proving you were allowed to park there.
