If I apply for disability will I get it?

If you apply for disability do you also get medical ?

• My mom applied for disability because of her health problems, she was still working part time. but she couldnt do it anymore she just turned 62. She was approved for disability till she turns 65, then she can get her retirement benefits. Next month she starts to get her disability checks. will she also qualify for medical assistance such as medicare or not?

  It depends what type of disability you are talking about. If she is on short term state disability, then no. You have to be expected to stay disabled for more than 12 months to qualify for either private long term disability or federal social security disability. If she is already getting SSDI, then the age will be 66 when those benefits become regular retirement benefits. 66 is the current full retirement age for anyone born 1943 to 1954. Benefits at that point may be less or the same amount as her SSDI. When she is eligible, Medicare will enroll her 24 months from her disability date. Since she is disabled she may qualify for Medicaid if her income and assets meet the requirement. Check with the Social Services or welfare office on that. The only medical available to her is a county clinic where she would pay a fee based on her income.
