How safe is government job these days?

Would a True Christian just up and Quit a Job?

  • I say no.. Especially in my state.. The unemployment rate in my state is 13 percent... And that dont count the people that stopped looking for work.. And the Democrats say the Great Reccession is over.. Not in my state it isnt.. I say anyone these days who just quits a job because they dont like it isnt a true Christian and is an idiot when there are millions of people in my state who would love to take your job..especially if he has a family.. In my view that makes him a bum and no one should feel sorry for him if you dont work and you have the chance you shall not eat. And you shall not ask for government benefits.. But for those who cant find a job and want a job.. Theres a difference then the people who have a job and up and quit I meant to write for the people who cant find a Job and want a job.. Thats different they should be helped.. Not the bums who refuse to work. these days finding work is very hard.. And if you just up and quit because you dont wanna do work and your lazy then you are at fault .. These days if your employer tells you to jump you say how high...

The idea that the Great Recession "is over", is propaganda. Why? 1) The number of employed people continues to go down despite the population increasing. The government is not providing true unemployment statistics. The number of people receiving unemployment is going down, but again, there are less employed people today than last month. 2) Bernanke and Obama injected 7.7 trillion dollars in the economy so far. That is approximately 10% of GDP over the last 2 years. According to Keynesian economics, there should be a 10% increase in GDP. However, at the best we have seen only 2% increase in GDP. Not to mention that inflation also increases GDP, and inflation is around 3% (at least that is what Social Security recipients got as a benefits increase starting in January). 3) Housing prices continue to fall 4) Consumer debt is increasing. Yes, we had a good holiday sales last year. But the increase in holiday sales corresponded to an increase in consumer debt.

A christian may have a good reason to quit a job. Some jobs may be dangerous or have intolerable work conditions. It can be very difficult to work at a job if the boss or coworkers are not nice. Employees often do not have much power in changing their conditions. Sometimes people just reach their limits and they can't take anymore.

James 4:11 Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. Maybe your the one doing the wrong? Your not giving nearly enough information?... For all you know he hated his job and wants to go back to school after saving up some money plus his wifes income... or his wife makes enough for him to quit and search for another job... you cant say someone isnt a true christian just because they didnt want to work at a certain job... people quit their job frequently for new opportunities all the time maybe that job had to make overtime and he couldnt see his kids as much as he wants? hes going to hell because he wants to spend quality time with his kids and find a different job?

I am a devout Catholic and respect your opinion. I know that the economy is harsh in many areas, so jobs should not be taken for granted. I worked for nine years at one location because I got hired after a job search of many months during the recession of 2001. So when I got hired I did not take it for granted. Many times, something unfair happened or there was a mishap in the social dynamics of the work environment. I often felt like leaving but didn't. I just felt like I couldn't take the job for granted after having gone through the harsh job search of 2001 to early 2002. So I stuck it out keeping in mind the ethics factor you described. After almost ten years I left for new projects out-of-state. I found a position but resigned after four months. The model was completely unrealistic for me, and I was not a good fit. My allostatic load was getting far too high. It's a situation where the work load and stress severely disrupt the neurophysiological balance of the human body. The elevated stress hormones (cortisol), high blood pressure, depression, anger, hypertension, anxiety, etc. just go too extreme. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allostatic_load?prevver=search# Right before I resigned I literally resorted to prayer. In the midst of that prayer I decided to resign. I felt it was the best choice, and I feel much better. I did interview successfully for a new position about a week before I resigned, so keep in mind that logical alternatives must be kept viable before making a decision like that. As long as a happy alternative can be found, there is no reason to stay at an overly stressful job that is unhealthy. It's better to part ways. Allostatic load should not be downplayed.

Will take this is pieces. Religion has little to do with it, but the basic principles are as good as any and it surprises me how so many people touting "true Christian" or "Good Christian" don't act like one, but nothing personal to you one way or the other. I judge people as individuals and don't know enough by your paragraph. Unemployment 13% is point to Nevada where I live or unofficial figures of California an several other states. In Nevada, taxes are low and even here there is some recovery from the bottom. I would not bring political parties into this, because my detailed review of policy statements would have Nevada in really deep poo with any of the 4 Republican's elected, especially Ron Paul, but you would have to not listen to the rhetoric and instead read the policies and analysis to understand it. The Recession started as George Bush was in his last months and was the legacy of the administration and quite a deep hole to dig out of, but the numbers overall say the economy is somewhat improved looking at many different figures. Employment or public service as a job is always a choice and the only time principles should be involved is if the organization is doing immoral or illegal activities as something you can't improve and that is a great reason to quit. Otherwise, anyone can quit as they please. If a person doesn't like their job, they should go out and find another. It is as simple as that. As to quitting and going on public relief and not getting another job or being self-supportive, I totally agree with you, that the lazy who cannot afford to be lazy on their own deserve no sympathy. When somebody quits a job, there are usually plenty of qualified people to fill it who want that job no matter how bad it is, and I consider all jobs worthy of respect and needed by society. Answered you the best I could; half agreeing, part disagreeing, and neutral on the rest. I hope I am thorough enough as an answer here. Dirk Potters Answer has a mix of accurate and inaccurate figures and conclusions, but this is not a chat forum. There is no question that the economy overall is improved, and the only question is by what amount.
