Can I use my Military ID to get a Passport?

Can i use a photocopy of my passport or birth certificate to get my CA ID?

  • Unfortunately, I lost my wallet and I need to replace my ID. Can i use a photocopy of my passport or birth certificate to get a new one? I also have a school ID, would that work? Lastly, I made the mistake of leaving a copy of my SSC in my wallet too but I have no credit accounts or anything of that sort because I am still a minor. Am I at risk? If so how much? Thank you so so much for your answer :) -John

  • Answer:

The State Department has a page about lost/stolen passports. You would have to read through it to find out if you have to present any other ID. The department of Motor Vehicles might be willing to give you a new ID based on the photo, height, and weight they have recorded from when you obtained it, without having to present any id; ask them. You have learned the hard way that you shouldn't carry your social security card or your birth certificate in your wallet.
