What is communism???

  • Being younger and living in the United States I have never been exposed to much communism. Observing the things happening in my country right now has me wondering what the basics of communism are. Chavez of Venezuela (a true and pronounced communist) recently said that he thought he was bad, but when he saw the things Obama was doing to the USA he realized how quickly a country could be overtaken by communism. I have always lived a free and capitalistic life unexposed to communism. Can I get some feedback so as to make my own decision?

  • Answer:

communism is a term that is thrown about for marxism. true communism never existed and never will. if, for some reason, it did exist, it would benefit all.

Unfortunately, communism in practice tends to be somewhat different, as those who have lived in the 20th century know. Communism as practiced by Lenin, Stalin and Chairman Mao is an entirely different proposition. This kind of communism sets up an authoritarian government, with the best goods and services going to those in government. It was not uncommon in Soviet Russia for people to vie for government jobs — not because they were such fans of communism, but because they got a larger apartment. Capitalists gripe about corruption, but communist governments are just as rife with it as capitalist systems. Government members tend to rationalize that they deserve the best of everything because they are governing for the people. As the guy above me stated... Communism could benefit all, if it were not abused by the government.
