Why exactly are college books so expensive?

Why are college text books allowed to be so expensive? why do we do this to our own kids?

  • Answer:

It's called "CAPITALISM". The book publishing companies don't give a damn about you or your kids. They only care about making money. Like all good little republics.

the schools found ANOTHER way to relieve you of your cash, in addition to increasing real estate taxes every year to pay the teachers.

You should buy your text books online and have them shipped. It is much cheaper. Trust me.

I recommend buying the international editions of the books. Theyre usually paperback and have the same content as the US editions but at a fraction of the cost.

Basically, there's monopolies at work here. A lack of competition means that the publishers can charge whatever they like and schools have to accept it because they need textbooks and there are very few publishers who make college quality texts.
