Why do people like professional sports?

Why are so many people interested in professional sports teams?

• I don't get it...people cheering on "their" teams, following players, getting upset whenever "their" teams and playes lose...I just don't understand--I swim, but I don't follow any teams or players. Why do people idolize others like that? Don't bash, I just have a point of view of my own and I'd like to understand the other.

  for me, i love sports and to see the best athletes in the country or world competing is awesome. you swim yet you don't have a favorite swimmer? i find that strange isn't there one person maybe an olympian you admire for their morals, talent etc, someone you'd like to be like or be better than someday.. as a soccer player i'd always looked up to mia hamm and brianna scurry the best of the best at what they did i strived to do better and by watching and learning from them i could better myself. on another note i love college football i have a team i prefer simply because my family routes for that team.. basically i love the competition and in all of the teams there are some individuals i have come to really admire and respect because of their style of play or certain things they do behind the scenes..
