Get over fear of tumbling?

How to get over my fear of tumbling?

  • I really want to make my schools varsity team next year. To be on the team there is a possibility of needing a layout. I have my standing tuck, but I have been stuck on round off tucks, and round off back handspring tucks. My tumbling coach is really good, and I trust him but I can not even do a round off tuck on the tumble track by myself anymore. I really need to get off of tucks, and on to layouts. But I am really scared, and I do not know why. I got my back handspring May of 2010, and I really want to get better. I am stuck, and I do not know what to do, because I really want to be good. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. :)

The best advice I can give is to work HARD! no one started off what they do being great, everyone had to work that means blood sweat and tears to get to the level you want to preform at. What I did was just not think about it- when you are about to go clear your mind and don't think about it! Just go. BEST of luck to you and to your tumbling!

It sounds like you have a mental block. The only way past it is to work through it. Have the coach spot you for a while. Visualize doing it correctly. Over time, the coach will be able to lighten the spot until you don't need one anymore. Along the way, celebrate the small victories you achieve and keep your eyes on the prize- Varsity next year! Good luck.
