What are the best music school colleges?

What happens to design, music, and performing arts student majors in colleges?

  • I know there are colleges and universities out there that are expensive and pricey towards the certain majors like a college of art, or a college of fashion, or a college of music. And in those colleges are students majoring in these subjects. Now, from what i've heard and been told was that these majors such as design, performing arts, music, fashion, and etc are very competitive and most of the students who graduate end up being homeless and what not. I am just wondering is this totally true or not? Because when I was in the 9th grade in high school (now a senior) I wanted to do art or music because i was kind of good at it, but people told me that the same old stuff I've just mentioned (won't find a job, competitive, same old same old). so now I'm asking do these students, who spend loads of money on these art schools, fashion school, music schools, and acting schools, do they in the future get the job they been working and spending time for in college?

  • Answer:

Yes, these industries are very competitive. It is not easy to get a job in art, fashion, music, film, entertainment, etc. However, there ARE people who have these jobs, right? As long as those industries exist, then someone has to fill those jobs. It might as well be you. The reason that so many people try and fail is because these are so popular (because they are FUN) that everyone wants to make a career out of it. The truth is that not everyone is talented enough, skilled enough, educated enough, or works hard enough to get what they want. Not everyone in the film industry is going to win an Oscar, but thousands of different people work on films every year. Same goes for the rest of the industries you mentioned. There are a lot of slackers out there that do not put in the extraordinary effort it requires to be successful is such a tough business. But, those who really dedicate themselves to their craft and are willing to work their end off, they do make it. My dream was to work in theater, and for more than a decade, that is exactly what I did. I made my living at it. I didn't have family in the business, I just work hard, got the training I needed, and I did it. So the answer to your question is that yes, it is hard. Yes, many people fail. But, YES, many people really do succeed. The people who tell you that you cannot make your dreams come true are the ones who failed and gave up on their own dreams a long time ago. In today's world, you've just got to be tougher and more creative in order to reach your goals. So, if you are thinking about going after those goals... you might want to look at this site which has a lot of info about different jobs in the entertainment industries. It isn't a bunch of BS about how much fun it is and how ANYBODY can make it, but it does get pretty in-depth in talking about how to really prepare and how to start your career. It busts a lot of myths about the industry as well! http://getinmedia.com/
