What is a good name for a youth magazine?

Name a black musician who isn't a rapper that appeals to modern day black youth?

  • Can you name five contemporary (current) ,mainstream (ie. receives significant media attention) black musicians who appeal to black youth in America? Basically what I'm asking is, can you name 5 musicians who: -are current -are mainstream -are black -appeal to black youth -are not rappers/ rhythms and blues artists Most people would have an EXTREMELY difficult time naming 5 (if any) musicians that meet all those standards. Do you ever get suspicious as to why the media is so hellbent on only shining light on black musicians that are more than likely to negatively impact black youth in America? Do you ever get suspicious as to why to why the ratio between black jazz, rock, and classical musicians (amongst many other different genres asides from rap) and black rappers and r&b musicians are ridiculously disproportionate and skewed? I'm not implying anything exactly... but can anyone give me a logical reason or theory as to why the media is seemingly so reluctant to portray (to youth - particularly black youth) black musicians as being anything other than a rapper or a r&b artist... doesn't anyone ever get suspicious as to why there are literally very few to no black rock musicians, classical composers, piano players, jazz musicians etc.? Surely there are black people who integrate themselves into said genres... so what gives? Why is it that the only type of black musicians I run across in mainstream music targeted for America's youth.. are rappers? Please... someone fill me in.

You're speaking about the effect as if it were the cause. Current mainstream black musicians that appeal to black youth tend to be rappers and r&b artists because those are the genres of music that black youth tend to listen to. If black youth started to listen to techno all of a sudden, you'd see a lot more mainstream black techno artists. I also find your assertion that there are "very few to no" black jazz musicians to be somewhat suspect.

Tthe media is portraying rappers in a negative light because most rappers want to be viewed that way. Don't act gansta if you don't want to be viewed as one. The media wants to sell papers, magazines, tv ads and they know the popularity of hip hop artists. They also know that youth idolize these artists and copy them just as teenagers did in the 50s with Elvis, in the 60s with the Beatles, 70s with the Grateful Dead, 80's Punk Rock, etc. America's youth have a natural propensity to rebel against the establishment. So those things which are counter culture for the day such as hip hop, or skate boarding, or raves, drugs, alcohol are all attractive to a lot of the youth because simply...their parents don't like it. By supporting counter culture icons they get to subconciously rebel againt their parents, teachers, clergyman, etc. In turn those stories sell magazines and tv ads. And American hip hop artists love it because not only are they artists but they're businessmen and women. The more kids listen to their work the more money they make. So is the media driving the image of the artist to make a buck or are the artist creating images to capture an audience and the media is making money feeding off of their popularity?

becareful talking like that got kennedy killed

The gorillaz, bloc party, the band on the jimmy fallon show, my friend phil (drummer from the brown stripes and zhang) and thats all i got. But i dont like rap. So none of these people who r black are not bad influences to black youth.
