What is the Celtic knot?

Celtic Knot Pendants Meaning?

  • What is the meaning of those celtic knot pendants that I see people wear all the time?

  • Answer:

Meaning? As in symbolic meaning and significance? I can help with that :D Ok, Celtic knots are probs (probably) the most well-known and recognizable Celtic symbol. (As can be said by why they are in jewellery!) The history of Celtic knots - they started around 450 AD (After jesus Christ. Known as 450 CE by non-Christians). This celtic knot symbol is also called the endless or mystic knot. To understand the symbolic meanings of this helps understanding beginnings and ends. Look at the knots, we cannot see the beginnings OR ends! This has a symbolic meaning of: *timeless nature *birth *endlessness *cycles etc. When the knots are found in jewellery they are often used as emblems. They symbolize, or mean, endless nature, an uninterrupted cycle. They are like charms, you know, lucky and helpful. For the records, 3 main ( and quite beautiful) types of celtic knots are: - Dara Celtic Knots - Celtic Quaternary Knots - Celtic Five Fold I will put below a link on pages about these I found just now. Hope you enjoy :) http://www.whats-your-sign.com/dara-celtic-knot-meaning.html http://www.whats-your-sign.com/quaternary-celtic-knot-meaning.html http://www.whats-your-sign.com/five-fold-celtic-meanings.html

There are a whole bunch of Celtic knots that I'm not going to even attempt to name because, frankly, I don't know them all. However, you asked for the meaning-that, I'm glad to help with :) Celtic knots have been found carved on stone, in early-AD Celtic tomes (see: Book of Kells) and even in ancient jewellry. It's said to represent a slew of things by a slew of different people: infinite wisdom of the Gods or God, the sacredness and infinite manner of the universe, eternity, eternal mystery in nature, and basically the concept of infinity. Sometimes they would be left unfinished to represent just how massive the concept they were trying to represent.
