What are some science fair projects I can do on the brain? +8th grade level?
-
In my class, we had read a lot and find facts on our topic; in my case the brain. Now all the FACTS are true but we need to choose one a prove it. Can you please help me? It has to be over 8th grade level so no knee tapping. LOL. Facts: Brain activity symbolizes a person is dreaming. The brain is divided into four parts, also known as lobes. The optical lobe receives and stores information. The temporal lode deals with retrieving general information through sound and touch. The parental lobe is the area in your brain that desires attention, perceives general information, skill learning, and sense of touch. The frontal lobe, also the biggest of the four lobes, sustains memories, the ability to differentiate smells, and makes you aware of an others ill intentions. Basic human behavior is called motivational behavior because we are motivated to do them. Darwin's evolution of behavior (social biology) explains that a person is more likely to become attracted to another with the same gene pools. Learning in the process that allows us to change our behavior in response to experience and psychologist describes it as classical conditioning and operant conditioning. The CNS( central nervous system), also known as the brain, is the body's main network that send electrical impulses to signal other body parts. A neuron is an individual basic unit of the nervous system. Sensory neurons respond to sensory stimuli (touch, sound, light, etc.) and travels up the spinal cord to the brain. Motor neurons get responses from the brain and triggers impulses to the body. Interneurons connect neurons to other neurons within the same region of the brain or spinal cord. White matter, beneath the gray matter, makes up the inside of your skull and the outside of your spine. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that emit from the neuron's axon when the end of the neuron is stimulated. Many stages in life are not “learned” but “developed”. Myelins is fatty substance that wraps around the axon to help generate faster impulses and enhances efficiency. Your sense of touch is mostly caused by the motor neurons located under your skin. Dendrites are tiny fibers that carries signals to the cell body. Auditory nerves can be damaged by loud and soft noises over a period of time. The brain was not completely understood until about 100 years ago. Brain waves are constantly released, awake or asleep. A tumor is when there is a sudden burst of cellular tissue growth in one area of the brain. It can damage the tissue around it. The left and right brains are not connected. REM (rapid eye movement) usually occurs when the person is having a deep dream; they would most likely to remember it if woken up at this state. The cerebellum controls your balance and weighs about 1/8 of your brain. The brain combines two images and creates a 3D image. Ganglia are nerves with some lumps which are groups of cell bodies and dendrites. Action potentials are the neuron’s “language,” they are also known as electrical pulses. The hippocampus stores long term memories as well as convert short term to long term memories. The impulse can travel more then 426 ft. per second. The one inch long medulla controls the automatic functions in your body. Robert, in 1886, developed a theory that dreams clean a person's memories and helps a person fix their emotional state. When your eyes are closed, there is less stimulation, therefore the area of sight is active. The hypothalamus controls the pituitary gland; this gland controls your growth. Antti Rovenso believes that dreams are an acquired survival technique. Nightmares are dreams that cause dread. Many dreams blur the boundary between reality and dreams; it was dated back to Zhuang Zi's era. The synapse can only travel one direction. The brain is made of 28 bones. Eight for the skull and 20 for the jaw and face. __ Please quote in the response the fact that it's proving and the directions to doing the experiment. And since it's a science fair project... I can't go cutting animals up. :( Thanks for spending your time reading/clicking this question. :)

Answer:
Some of these would be quite tricky to find out, but sometimes the simple things done well are the best. There are lots of test for laterality of brain you could test and also how the brain tricks you into thinking things (lateral vision) or maybe about nightmares that cause dread. I am sure there are some things online that you could use or modify. I can think of things I could do but having the equipment is another thing! I think there is a test where you have a box divided where you have one hand in each and you can do some testing on the subject by making them do different things in each side of the box. Not that much help, but going online might help.

You could try "The brain combines two images and creates a 3D image" and make a game out of it.
