Process of becoming a Nurse Practitioner?

  • I have an associates of arts and sciences because I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do before so what do I do now? Do I just start my bachelors now or do pre-reqs? The only classes I have taken that would be pre-reqs would be general psych, lifespan psych, social psych, chem, and up to precalc 2... I think that is about it. physics too but idk why a nurse needs physics. Oh and English obviously

    To become a nurse practitioner, you must have a bachelors with a registered nursing(RN) licence, and a masters degree along with a nurse practitioner(NP) license. You take pre reqs for the bachelors program before you can apply. There are some programs where the pre reqs are included in the program. But these are more expensive and you can get kicked out if you do bad in your pre reqs and not even reach the nursing portion. After you graduate from your bachelors, you can either work or go directly into a NP program. Most NP programs require you to have some experience before applying. An NP program is the same as getting your Masters in nursing, so you need a bachelors first and also your RN license to apply. The programs are very competitive. The average GPA is about 3.7 for entering students.
