Am I allergic to Zoloft?

Weird zoloft side effect?

  • I have been on celexa 40 mg for anxiety and depression and it worked very well for me for about 8 months. In mid-December I went to the doc in mid-December and was switched to Zoloft. The very next day I started having this nasty smell in my nose. At first I thought it was the Zoloft, and after three days switched back to the Celexa and the smell pretty much went away. I switched back to the Zoloft and it came back---but since I am having mild sinus infection symptoms (throughout---sinus headache and stuffiness, no fever) I decided to get treated for a sinus infection. I was on the forth day of my antibiotics yesterday and the smell was still here, so I changed back to the Celexa again last night--and so far I haven't really smelled that nasty smell. The smell is almost like a puke smell. Yuck. Anyways, I have a lot of scientific background and am trying to find a legitimate reason Zoloft would cause this, and can think of none! Does anyone know if SSRIs, Zoloft, etc. can cause something like this as a side effect.

  • Answer:

Hi--first of all, it's not a good idea to switch back and forth between anti-depressants (or any other medication). I couldn't find nasal abnormalities listed anywhere as a side effect (although sinus infections were). See the link below for the full prescribing info, which includes all known side effects. You may simply have an unreported side effect.
