Theoretically, HOW would a 17 year old pay for medical school if they get in and are qualified?
-
Assuming some 16-17 year old out there has completed all the pre-requisites and will be completing a bachelor's degree next year. But they will be 17 years old at the time medical school starts. They will only turn 18 in the middle of the first year of medical school. Assuming they have good qualifications BUT aren't exceptional for a scholarship, how do they pay? Assuming they are just average, with average MCAT scores, (35+), average GPA (3.7+) and average volunteer hours (100+). Assuming that they are really average, but still got into med school because they are qualified, how do they pay? Also, assume that their parents will NOT cosign for any loans because the parents' belief is never to get into debt and their parents have never gotten into debt, but are NOT rich AT ALL and rent an apartment. And parents will not contribute at all. Will the 17 year old be able to take out enough loans from financial aid? WITHOUT parent's permission? Also, 17 year old has no time to get emancipated, and parents won't allow it, and it would take too long. THIS is just theoretical!!! Just theoretically, if this were to happen, how would the 17 year old pay? If emancipation is not an option. (or do you think that's the only option?) Please provide any insight.

Scholarships work. The three branches of the military will pay you to go to med school also.
Depends on where you live, I suppose. Here in the Netherlands, the government will pay a large portion of your higher education. You will still need to pay about ~1800 euros a year yourself, but that's doable if you have some sort of weekend job. Your parents will have to pay about the same amount. But then, that's the Dutch system. It might be best to ask a study advisor or something similar what to do.
Let's replace some of your theoretical ideas with reality. Parents' incomes are always used for financial aid purposes, unless the child can prove that he/she has been paying his/her own way for (I think) 2 years. Very few 17 yr olds can do that. It doesn't matter what Mommy and Daddy believe, it's how it works. Average scores won't get anyone into med school, much less a 17 yr old. Being qualified only gets your application looked at, it certainly does not get you accepted. I doubt a medical school would accept such a young person unless they were truly spectacular in some way. Teenagers are children, and do not have the emotional maturity to be physicians. Do not use "Doogie Howser" as a reference. (I actually trained with a surgeon who was a few years younger than his classmates, and he was called Doogie Howser by everybody.) Since your theoretical scenario is so full of absurdities, let's just say that he'll be a part time unicorn farmer, and use the proceeds from that endeavor to pay for school.
