Pharmacist and Doctor questions.?
-
Okay, so i have putting excessive amounts of thought into what i would like to do for a caree I narrowed it down to 2 Doctor (specifically Neurologist) or a Pharmacist. Now basically these are my questions. 1. How much difference in competitiveness is being a doctor compared to a pharmacist to keep your job. 2. How much will Med School and Pharmacy school cost? (Also is being a pharmacist considered a doctor) 3. How much of a difference is there in what they make annually? 4. What is the whole process of becoming a pharmacist step-by-step starting from he time you graduate high school? 5. What should a pharmacist major in college? 6. What GPA is needed to get into a GOOD pharmacy school? 7. Do you need to complete a residency like doctors to be a pharmacist? 8. What is the typical day of a pharmacist like? 9. How young/old can you retire, and on average how much do you make while in retirement? --------------------------------------… Thank you in advance to anyone who answers this question. Any additional information is welcome and greatly appreciated, Thanks

Answer:
1. Both are competitive to get specialized jobs 2. Depends on where you go. If you go to an in state school where you are considered a resident of that state then you get lower tuitition. It also depends how many years of undergraduate you do, since it is not necessarily required to earn a bachelors degree, you just need to complete like 80 credits of prerequisites, but most PharmD. programs are requiring a bachelors degree 3. Doctors will make more but pharmacists still make around 100k 4. answered this in number two 5. It doesn't matter as long as you fulfill all the prerequisite material for the Pharmacy program. Generally most people major in a science field like biology or chemistry since most of the pharmacy prerequisites apply to those majors 6. For academics the two factors most schools look at are GPA and PCAT score... The PCAT is a standardized pharmacy entrance exam, kinda like the MCAT for med school or LSAT for law school. If you do really well on your PCAT (like 90 percentile or above) you could have a lower GPA. GPA is also dependent on the school you went to for instance if you go to a university with more rigorous academics the pharmacy school may recognize that and take that into account if you have a lower GPA compared to someone that went to a less prestigious university. 7. Pharmacists have the option to complete a residency once they complete pharmacy school or they can go into the work force. Most specialized fields of pharmacy and more desirable work places for pharmacists prefer that you have a residency. 8. The age you retire is all dependent on your finances and how you want to live when you're retired, as far as making money when you're retired...you dont make money if you dont work.... however it is possible to receive government pension if you work for the veteran's affairs hospital

Pharmacists today need an undergraduate degree and another four years of school to obtain a Pharm D degree. The cost of this would vary depending upon what school it was but would average about one hundred thousand dollars or slightly more. If you were to become a retail pharmacist you would get a five thousand dollar signing bonus and could expect to start at one humdred thousand dollars per year. Hospital pharmacists would get less but the job is far more interesting. Your would still have a doctors degree but nobody calls you doctor. On the other hand if you were to become a physician, the degree would cost you two hundred thousand dollars and you could expect to have eight years of schooling and four to six years of residency before you go into practice. Physicians make between two hundred thousand and a million dollars starting out depending upon what you want to start out doing. As a pharmacist you would work a forty hour wk but as a physician you may need to work an eighty hour wk.
