What does it takes to be a forensics?

What qualifications do you need to be a forensic scientist, and what is the best uni for Forensics?

  • Ok, I want to be a forensic scientist, but Im not sure waht qualifications you need, and which uni is the best for Forensics. Additional Info would be great (I.e. what i can specilise in etc) Thanks!!!

  • Answer:

If you are interested in lab related work, a PHD in pharmacology or toxicology and a Masters degree in one or the other or in chemistry or biochemistry) would prepare you very well but you would require a 1-2 years post-doc working in a forensic lab to really make yourself marketable. If you simply want to work in a lab a masters degree in any of these fields would be fine. If you want to address behavioral issues then a Masters in psychology would be helpful or a joint degree program such as biological psychology with strong training in chemistry and pharmacology. Once you get into college start taking courses in biology, chemistry, biochem, etc. (pretty much a pre-med curriculum). There, you will meet professors who can steer you into the best courses. Right now, study hard and get into the best university you can find that has strong science departments.
