What is the highest dose of Ativan?

I am prescribed ativan and xannax, my ativan ran out, can i replace with xannax of equal dose?

  • my prescription for ativan 1mg ran out, i have been taking the medicine consistantly (dose wise) (1mg each time)tho i also have a prescription for xannax 1mg that hasnt run out. Is it a good idea to continue taking the equivalent dose of xannax(for about a week), in place of the ativan until i get my ativan refilled? or should i just wait? seeing how they are both benzodiazapenes yet slightly different i dont see it as too much of a bad idea. but healthwise! is there a possibility of any side affects, aside from benzo-side effects in general, that would result from a sudden shift from ativan to xannax?(remember that i wouldnt be weening off the ativan----just continuing the ativan dose in xannax form)---(just for a bout a week until i get my ativan refilled) please give some advice regarding possible negative health affects or issues with doing this. and please dont tell me to just 'get off the pill' thats not an option rite now. anyways any advice would be great. thanks

  • Answer:

Though you're supposed to gradually transfer from one to another, I think it would be better than just cutting out your ativan dose, where you would probably see withdrawal.
